“Voices and Algorithms”: Voice Rights in the AI Era

Digital transformation today touches one of the most intimate and identity-defining dimensions of human beings: the voice. With the evolution of artificial intelligence and voice synthesis technologies, new opportunities emerge for media, advertising and cinema, but also complex legal questions. These topics will be at the center of “Voices and Algorithms”, the new event promoted by IAA – International Advertising Association Italy Chapter, which will take place in Rome on September 15, 2025 at Via 4 Novembre 149 (registration from 5:00 PM, free admission).
AI Voices and Algorithms
Among the speakers of the round table, the participation of Attorney Cristiano Cominotto stands out, lawyer and journalist, founder and Managing Partner of AL AdvaLux. His presentation will address the central issue of voice ownership and protection in the AI era: who holds the rights when a voice is digitally replicated? How do we balance creative freedom with personal protection?
“The voice is not just a sound, it is a distinctive trait of our identity, like the face or fingerprints. Today technologies allow us to reproduce it with impressive realism, but this requires us to rethink legal rules. The risk is that uncontrolled use generates violations of intellectual property rights. The challenge is to find a balance between innovation and rights protection,” declared Attorney Cominotto.
The debate also includes:
- Giorgio Borghetti, voice actor and member of the Assembly of Delegates of Nuovo IMAIE
- Prof. Marta Perrotta, professor of Cinema, photography, radio, television and digital media at Roma Tre University
- Prof. Elisa Giomi, AGCOM Commissioner and professor at Roma Tre University

The debate will be moderated by Attorney Andrea Mezzetti, Of Counsel at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe. The introduction and closing of the proceedings will be handled by Debora Magnavacca (Akita Film) and Marta Colonna (pagoPA).
